Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
